Sydney's the place for fuel handling expertise

Acres is a multidisciplinary organization which contains many groups of specialists. One of these groups is based in the SGE Acres office in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and is led by two engineers who earned their degrees in the Maritimes and their reputations at airports across Canada. Their speciality is the design and implementation of systems for safe and efficient fuel handling.

Between them Harry Ryder and Floyd Butts have over 50 years of experience in this field. Their work can be found at marine terminals on both the east and west coasts of Canada, and at industrial facilities, but the team is best known for its involvement in aviation fuel storage and dispensing systems. Vancouver, Winnipeg, Lester B Pearson, Dorval and Halifax are among the international airports which have benefitted from their experience and skills, as well as many smaller airports in Eastern Canada and offshore.

A specialist approach to the design of fuel handling systems brings many advantages to clients:

Knowledge of regulatory constraints. Safety and environmental issues are of paramount importance at any airport. The team is up-to-date on all Standards and Codes, and their implications.

Knowledge of industry practices. With hands-on experience at twenty or more airports the SGE Acres team is often able to assist the Aviation Refueling Committees to find new and better ways of meeting the needs of their users.

Knowledge of user requirements. SGE Acres solutions extend all the way to the aircraft, taking into account the fueling requirements of each type of aircraft and the ground handling equipment required to do the job safely and efficiently.

Knowledge of materials and construction techniques. The team has provided new design and upgrades for gasoline, stove, diesel, jet fuel, Bunker AC, asphalt and pitch storage and handling systems. Dike systems have been designed and built from concrete, with and without secondary liners. Above and below ground tank installations, with single and double bottoms, have been fabricated from steel and fiberglass. A number of different leak detection monitoring systems have been specified and installed.

The expertise of the SGE Acres Sydney team enables even the most complex project to be carried out safely, economically and, where necessary, in fast-track mode.
