Built for speed and endurance

Trent Windsurfing Trent Winstone likes windsurfing, skiing and mountain-bike races that last 24 hours. He also has a knack for financial and feasibility planning so our clients’ projects go the distance too.
Trent’s favorite pastime is mountain biking, and he’s raced on several 24-hour relay teams in the past six years. The races start at noon on a Saturday and don’t finish until noon Sunday, with varied-terrain circuits 10-15 km in length. He also competes in similar eight-hour races, recently placing third after riding more than 100 km. He’s now training for a six-day stage race in 2005.

At work, he likes to slow things down a little, preferring a thorough and diligent approach to analysis and planning. Trent is a Senior Consultant with 15 years experience in project finance, economic feasibility, regulatory compliance and tariff design. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1983 and earned his P.Eng with Civil experience primarily in the area of municipal infrastructure. He then obtained an MBA from Queen’s in 1988 and built an excellent reputation in Ontario and Nova Scotia. He joined Acres Management Consulting in 2000 and has since worked for clients in Canada, Russia, India, Pakistan and the U.S.

Among his major accomplishments with Acres is his work for an Energy Sector Reform & Restructuring Project in the Kamchatka Region of the Russian Federation. Trent constructed an integrated financial projection and performance evaluation model designed to identify cost centers and forecast revenue requirements for Kamchatsenergo, the largest regional electricity and heat supplier. He worked closely with various government and utility officials and delivered detailed investment forecasts and a system optimization plan upon which the utility’s current activities are founded.

He is currently involved in an Energy Services Infrastructure Project in Uttar Pradesh, India. A myriad of power sector reforms are under way in the state and Trent has been heavily involved in the tariffs area of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation. His work includes the cost of service study, financial forecast and rate increase submissions to the regulator. He has developed excellent client relationships over the past two years and made significant contributions to the transfer of knowledge and training of UPPCL staff.

Trent’s extensive experience also includes feasibility assessments for thermal generation facilities in Colorado, financial modelling for hydro and wind projects in Ontario and feasibility assessments for a hydro project in New Brunswick.

No matter where the project or what the challenge, all Trent’s thinking is aimed at success for the long run.
