For 36 years, the Schreyer Award has been Canada’s highest distinction for consulting engineers, so we are indeed proud of the recognition.
The Bruce A Restart returned 1500 MW of much-needed emission-free energy to Ontario’s power grid. And it was a true exercise in the power of great teamwork. Over the three years, there were more than 100 Acres staff involved and 300 from our partners, along with 700 restart-dedicated personnel from Bruce Power at the project's peak.

L to R: Terry Armstrong (E.S. Fox), Ray Parson (Sargent & Lundy), Alan O'Brien (Acres), John Regan (Sargent & Lundy), Don McGregor (Acres), Brian Smyth (Bruce Power), Dan Jory (Acres) and Mike Knaszak (Sargent & Lundy)
ASLF’s work included all engineering and procurement, and the construction of 45 different modification projects over five million work hours. Individual assignments ranged from the maintenance and overhaul of existing equipment to the provision of two key safety systems – a Secondary Control Area and a 4.4-MW Qualified Power Supply.

The Schreyer Award and, most importantly, the successful restart itself, could not have been possible without the efforts of an exceptional team from start to finish.
The Bruce A Restart project was chosen from a record 64 entries for its significant technical and managerial achievements. The award was presented jointly by Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine and the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada during its annual gala at Chateau Laurier in Ottawa on October 28.
Incidentally, this is the second Schreyer for Acres; our first was in 1993 for the Mactaquac hydroelectric project in New Brunswick. |

I view these awards as a continuing testament to our philosophy at Acres – that the quality of work always comes first. Our internal working environment fosters innovative thinking and collaboration, and our focus on client needs leads to outstanding relationships and results. Awards can only follow when we strive to meet those standards.
Thank you again to everyone on the Bruce A Restart Team. I know you will all be involved in many more successes down the road. |
