Mixing Oil and Water
From hydro in 1924 to shale-oil in 2007 – and every key point along the dynamic curve of global energy development – Hatch Energy's engineers have been in the middle of it all.
A long history of staying current
Our company began in 1924 on the Niagara Falls hydroelectric developments in Canada and evolved with changing world energy markets – gaining broad experience in water resource management, offshore oil, compressed air energy storage, thermal power generation, power system master planning and power business management consulting.
Continued diversification
In 2000, we were well positioned for the nuclear renaissance in North America and completed the award-winning Bruce A nuclear restarts in Ontario. We continue working on nuclear projects across Canada and around the world. Also in this decade, we have built up our thermal power practice, concentrating on combined cycle and cogeneration plants, including our most recent cogeneration work in Australia. We have also invested substantial effort in the renewable energy sector – helping to develop several pioneering wind power projects across North America, and we are now actively examining the potential of tidal power.
Latest moves in oil and gas
Since 2000 we have had great success developing and implementing new technologies for the booming oil sands sector in Alberta – and we have further enhanced this capability following our merger with Hatch. We are helping our clients grow, and the success of our clients in turn helps us to expand.
We were recently awarded an EPCM contract for a shale-to-oil facility in Australia. Responsibilities are being shared between specialists at our offices in Brisbane, Australia, and Calgary, Canada. The project is a great example of the advantages gained by combining Hatch’s mining/mineral processing capability with Hatch Energy’s oil and gas expertise. Oil shale contains more hydrocarbon globally than oil sands, so there is great long-term potential for our company.
We are also working on new gas-to-liquid and coal-to-liquid projects in Australia.
Moving forward
Hatch Energy is a unique place where oil and water can actually mix – because we are experts in energy in all its forms.
