Real-time resource management
for Mighty River

Mighty River Power Ltd. of Hamilton, New Zealand has awarded Hatch Energy's Synexus Global Inc. (SGI) a significant 12-month contract for development and implementation of a Hydro Advisory Tool (HAT) based on SGI's proprietary Vista Decision Support System. SGI will evolve a new software module called RT Vista (Real Time Vista), as well as develop new functionalities including frequency regulation. The contract includes software licenses, development, customization, installation, extensive on-site testing, staff training and multi-year maintenance support. MRP is a crown-owned utility with nine power plants totalling 1,056 MW on the Waikato River cascade. The HAT will optimize the system on a plant-by-plant basis and enhance MRP’s response capabilities for the real-time energy spot market.

Chin Chute wind farm opens in Alberta

mapThe 30-MW Chin Chute wind farm, 20 km southwest of Taber, Alberta, was officially opened Friday, September 22, with 100 residents, dignitaries and politicians in attendance. The project is a joint venture of Enbridge, Suncor Energy and Acciona Wind Energy Canada. We provided full EPCM services that included collection system, roads, foundation and substation design. This was Hatch Energy’s second successful wind power EPCM project for this joint venture. Each of the 20 turbines is 20 storeys high and produces 1.5 megawatts of electricity – enough to supply 14,000 homes annually. Hank Van Beers, reeve for the Municipal District of Taber, said that Chin Chute, and a similar project being built in the area by ENMAX, could account for 5-10% of the municipality’s revenue.
