Widening our reach worldwide

Tony Hylton, Global Managing Director, Hatch Energy

International business has been a priority throughout our organization's history. But we have made particularly significant investments for growth over the past two years – opening more offices and stationing more of our specialists internationally in order to take greater advantage of growing world energy opportunities.

New leader for Global Energy
Alan O'Brien – Hatch’s new Global Managing Director, International BusinessContinuing this trend, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Alan O'Brien as Hatch’s new Global Managing Director, International Business – Energy. Our global Energy business covers Power, Oil & Gas and Energy Technologies.

Alan will oversee all areas while stationed in South Africa for one year to help focus efforts in that country's particularly challenging energy situation.

This news underscores the high priority placed on developing our Energy business outside of North America – a key part of our growth plan. Al will maintain his direct responsibility for our Thermal and Nuclear businesses and will continue as primary liaison with clients Bruce Power and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. Al's experience is truly unparalleled, so I am delighted that he will be leading the global team.

New office in Abu Dhabi
Another important step forward for our international business strategy is the opening of a new joint venture in Abu Dhabi with partner OGI Group. We bring extensive experience in oil sands and shale from western Canada, LNG from Western Australia, and conventional oil technologies from our work all around the world. The OGI Group in turn offers a wide range of customized oilfield services, from construction and site preparation to wellhead and completion equipment and logistics. There has never been a more exciting time in the Middle East oil and gas industry, and we are delighted to establish an office in one of the world’s fastest growing energy markets.

A truly global team
Our other key resources outside North America currently include Brisbane and Perth, Australia, where we provide a full range of capabilities in all energy areas, with particularly strong recent experience in cogeneration, LNG and oil shale.

In South Africa, we continue to seize opportunities that will help the country meet its increasing demand for power – building on Hatch's longstanding presence there, with more than 1,200 local personnel, and our considerable experience in power generation and transmission across the continent.

Hatch has also been in Santiago, Chile, for nearly 20 years. We are currently developing major hydroelectric projects in the Alto Cachapoal river basin.

We are also building our cogeneration and hydro experience in China using our base in Shanghai where we have been serving mineral processing clients for the past decade.

These latest expansions into strategic international markets are a continuation of our long tradition of progressive Energy solutions – and will allow us to better serve our clients around the world.
