A fresh calendar

Tony Hylton Global Managing Director, Energy

Last year was a great one. We officially introduced the Hatch Energy name while the company was very busy and showed significant growth. We increased staff and extended our activities into Hatch’s mining and minerals projects in Australia, South Africa and Chile.

Recently completed projects include Surmont SAGD for ConocoPhillips in Alberta; oilfield and hydro projects in the Middle East; Brookfield Power’s Prince Wind Farm in Ontario; and the seismic upgrade of the Bruce Nuclear Plant in Ontario.

Meanwhile, work continues on large projects around the world in all sectors. We are busy on hydro projects in Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia and Chile; there are several assignments in Alberta’s oil sands, as well as the Anglesea coal-fired power station in Western Australia and the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor for Eskom in South Africa. Work is also nearing completion on the Biosolids Waste-to-Compost project in Halifax.

For 2007, we look forward to more greenfield hydro projects in Canada and internationally. Our reputation in wind power has grown through a variety of key projects, and we have a number of wind energy assignments in Canada and the US. Continuing high demand for energy will keep us busy on oil sands projects in Western Canada as well as on conventional oil and gas extraction projects in the Middle East. We will also capitalize on Hatch's presence in Perth, Brisbane, Santiago, Johannesburg, etc., to grow our international EPCM services.

Recently awarded projects include: Healey Falls and Little Jackfish for Ontario Power Generation; Chacayes and Chacayes Upstream for Pacific Hydro in Chile; CO2 Flood for Apache Midale in Saskatchewan; and installation of emissions control technologies with Babcock Power for the AES Westover plant in New York state.

We will continue to grow this year – expanding our capabilities, continuing relationships with long-term clients and adding more as our reputaion grows.
