On behalf of Ontario Hydro (now Ontario Power Generation), Hatch Energy determined the feasibility of hybrid energy generation systems which would reduce dependence on diesel and other fossil fuels in the harsh Northern Canadian climate. A typical plant would combine photoelectric cells and wind power, with fuel-burning small hydro generators to ensure continuity of supply.
