Takoradi Combined Cycle Generating Plant, Ghana

Although Ghana's main source of electricity is the 1020-MW Akosombo hydroelectric generating station, smaller facilities are required to provide backup in drought conditions and to address peaking and power factor correction issues. Hatch Energy provided engineering services for a combined cycle plant at the deepsea port of Sekondi-Takoradi.

Hatch Energy assisted in site selection, conceptual design for the facility, and environmental assessment. We also prepared tender documents for the turnkey construction of Phase 1 of the project, which has a capacity of 300 MW.

Power is generated by two combustion turbines and one steam turbine. The project also included construction of a fuel oil unloading facility, with a 7-km pipeline; seawater intake and return for cooling purposes; fuel and water treatment; switchyard, with an outgoing 161-kV transmission line; and associated offices and staff housing.
