Rebuild of 550-MW Unit, Hawthorn GS, Kansas City

In partnership with Babcock & Wilcox, Hatch Energy provided engineering services for the detail design of balance-of-plant mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems for a complete rebuild of a 550-MW unit at Hawthorn GS, owned by Kansas City Power & Light. The installation includes a selective catalyst reduction reactor, scrubber, and baghouse.

In this project, Hatch Energy responsibilities include: the coal handling system, critical piping, ammonia piping and other feed systems, compressed air and nitrogen systems, elevators and hoists for the boiler area, a new electrical room, and installation drawings.

This is Unit 5 at the site. The project is planned to achieve unit synchronization within 3 months of the completion of foundations.
