Consumers Energy SCR Retrofit, MichiganIn a long-standing partnership, Hatch Energy frequently works as supplier's engineer with Babcock & Wilcox in retrofit projects at thermal power stations. Selective catalytic reduction reactors were installed at two Consumers Energy coal-burning thermal plants in response to new regulations requiring reduction of NOx emission during the summer months. At Karn GS, Bay City, Hatch Energy provided a range of engineering services for the installation of SCR reactors on two 285-MW units; at Campbell GS, Holland, Hatch Energy provided preliminary engineering services.

As in all projects of this type, the integration of large equipment into an existing plant is a major challenge. Each reactor, with associated flue work, weighs over 2000 tons.
