West Kootenay Power 230-kV System Development, British Columbia
Hatch Energy managed the Kootenay 230-kV System Development from concept to commissioning, on behalf of West Kootenay Power (now Aquila Networks Canada). Starting with master planning investigations and a subsequent feasibility study, Hatch Energy then prepared the regulatory application for this project and acted as lead witness in the regulatory hearing before the BC Utilities Commisssion. With regulatory approval in hand, Hatch Energy led a team of engineers, environmental planners and public relations specialists through the process of refining the design and consulting with environmental agencies and affected stakeholders. Hatch Energy also secured all needed environmental approvals and permits for the project.
Throughout this period, Hatch Energy was also an active participant in negotiations between interconnected transmission owners related to ownership and cost-sharing arrangements for the facilities, as well as coordination of design reviews and construction scheduling meetings between the transmission owners.

For the final execution of the project, Hatch Energy was awarded the role of overall program manager responsible for management of the project and tendering and awarding contracts for material procurement, design and construction of facilities.
Sophisticated project schedule, cost and document control tools were used by the program management team in the execution of this phase of the work. Hatch Energy was also responsible for detailed design of the transmission lines and rebuilt substations, and was assigned the "Owner's Engineer" role for two design-build 230/63-kV substations.
