Magpie River Development, Wawa, OntarioOver the course of 11 years, Hatch Energy provided conceptual, engineering definition and environmental studies, plus final design and construction management, for three new dams and hydroelectric stations on the Magpie River, near Wawa. The stations at Steephill Falls, Magpie Falls and Mission Falls have a total installed capacity of 43 MW.

Following construction, Hatch Energy conducted extensive environmental field monitoring over a 7-year period to fulfil commitments attached to project approval. These programs included seasonal water sampling at the three reservoirs; monitoring of mercury levels in fish and water at one reservoir; a regular creel census to track changes in recreational fishing; assessments of changes in fish populations; and wetland evaluations. |
