Working with FERC

The procedure for obtaining a license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is very complex, and can involve the participation of a myriad of other state and federal agencies. Help is at hand, from a team of highly-experienced specialists at the Hatch Energy Seattle office.

Your guide through the corridors of power

Staff in our Seattle office are well equipped to help clients understand the complex process of applying for an FERC license, and to develop strategies for success. As specialists, the team monitors the industry daily and participates on Regulatory and Legislative committees of the National Hydropower Association.

Among Hatch Energy's clients are state, municipal and investor-owned electric utilities; mining companies; water districts; irrigation districts; and regional joint action agencies. We work closely with our clients, often serving as adjunct staff. Among the services provided are training for those unfamiliar with FERC culture and procedures; identification of options and issues; planning for participation in the FERC process; and assisting clients in consultations with interested parties, in developing studies, participating in meetings and negotiating sessions, and preparing formal filings to FERC.

During the last few years the Seattle team has provided major support to clients during licensing and relicensing applications at The State Water Project in Northern California, The Lewis River Relicensings and Swift No. 2 in Washington State, Clackamas River Projects in Oregon, Cedar Creek in Washington (part of Waneta Project in British Columbia), and at Blind Slough, Indian River, and Blue Lake in Alaska.
