GROW3D for realistic
modeling of AAR

GROW3D is a proprietary finite element program developed at Acres for the evaluation of AAR affected hydraulic structures. The program is unique in its ability to properly model and forecast the structural effects of AAR on these structures. The program has been applied to dams and powerhouses owned by several hydro utilities in Canada, United States and overseas. Several projects have been completed for government agencies such as the US Army Corps of Engineers and the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR).

Arch stresses plotted on selected "arch" sections of a large arch dam. GROW3D analysis results after 56 years of concrete expansion due to AAR

The success of GROW3D is attributed to the careful calibration of the materials model during its development. The program predicts both deformations and stresses very well where other programs can match measured deformations but greatly overestimate AAR-induced concrete stresses. The material model includes stress dependant expansion behavior, enhanced creep and non-linear material behavior. For more information on AAR and GROW3D, contact the following experts.
