Energy Reduction Program
Hatch Energy, in collaboration with the Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM) management team, identified more than $1 million in potential savings following site-wide energy assessments at RTM’s three Canadian facilities in the Timmins, Ontario area.
RTM is a world leader in the development of industrial minerals. Key saving opportunities identified included preheating boiler feed water with vented steam, reducing river-pumping pressure, air compressor right-sizing and reducing mill building heat loss. An action plan for management practice improvements recommended discussing energy performance in daily operations meetings, establishing a cross-site energy committee, and recognizing the individuals and teams who contribute to the energy reduction targets.
Partial funding was provided by Hydro One and Natural Resources Canada. |
