Glass Plant Energy Efficiency Program
An on-site energy review of technical and management practices identified more than $130,000 per year of electricity savings at the Millbury, Ohio, USA float glass facility of Guardian Industries.
Energy savings opportunities included the replacement of metal halide lighting with high-efficiency fluorescent fixtures, weekend shutdown of unused equipment, repairing compressed air leaks, reducing compressed air pressure, and reduction of the tempering furnace set point during unused periods.
Improvements to management practices included establishing and reporting energy use per unit of production, calibrating and servicing energy monitoring systems, scheduled preventative maintenance for compressed air leaks, and providing awareness training.
Ohio's Department of Economic Development provided funding for the on site energy review through its Commercial and Industrial Energy Efficiency Program |
